Original question:

What kind of Panel and Officers do you want?

Our previous Panel of 11 has been unable to make progress and was disbanded due to lack of quorum. Additionally, the members had never been asked to approve its mandate. THis time we need to do it right and ask you: What powers do you want to give to what Officers?

A. Do you want an 11 person Panel with a wide mandate to determine website content, control use of the members' list , Poll the members and speak on your behalf?

OR

B. Do you want a division of Power, with different officers with narrow mandates for different functions? (see further options in other voting topics)

Do-all Panel or Division of Power?

Total number of voters: 98
Vote Number of Votes Percentage
A. Do-All Panel 35 35.7143%
B. division of Power 63 64.2857%

Comments:
  • I hope the combination of different officers and narrow mandates will push the icannatlarge plan forward.
  • A Division of Power is open to individual abuse
  • A do-all panel will end up with one person doing most of the work and about half of the people doing next to no work. Division of labour ensures clear responsibility accrues to each member.
  • Officers necessarily have specific powers; the Panel as a whole has specific responsibilities as well as general ones, and passes resolutions to define and delegate tasks, set agendas and timetables, organize votes of the membership, etc.
  • how to organize working groups should be discussed
  • Much of the panel inertia seemed to come from constant consensus checks and broad discussion before anything would be done. Give roles to individual panel members and let them action according to their mandate. Later adjustment is always possible.
  • none
  • Shoud the panel be able to create "special work teams" without the approval of the constituency?
  • Many small fiefdoms are preferable to one big fiefdom.
  • It's not really a 'do-all' panel if there's a separate executive with specific functions. I prefer a combination of a general policy making panel and a small executive.
  • More action oriented
  • Officers/Staff should be paid, in order that they might devote all their time to organization. Further they should have expense & travel budgets so that they can promote organization's objectives at senate commitee hearings, etc.
  • I just wat to vote for the people, not on the issues. When I have time again to dig into the issues and understand them well enough to vote on them than I would want to offer myself as amoung those willing to serve on the panel.
