Original question:
I am in two minds about volunteering on the Nominating Committee that ICANN is setting up.
On the one hand, I would help legitimizing an institutition that still has to prove to be worthy of any legitimizing.
On the other hand, IF ICANN would dare to have an independent like myself on such a key committee, it might just prove to be worthy of such help. A kind of last hope before the bureaucrats of the UN move in on Name and Number management. If I would be forced to toe the party line at any stage I could always resign and expose what I found wrong. At the same time I would be committed to transparency via the icannatlarge.com website.
Tell me what you think.
Should I volunteer for the NomCom before Feb. 8? Should I NOT volunteer?
-joop
Would you want me to sit on the NomCom?

Comments:
- i would support your participation in ICANN.
- Please do - we need a voice and eyes and ears
- I regard the NomCom as sham.
- i think so
- "you can't fall out of a well"
- Joop, you would be impossible to browbeat, and I trust your commitment to resign should your personal principles and integrity risk being compromised.
- The point about legitimation you are making seems ok for me.
- ICANN needs to put things right. Any help would be welcome, and this sounds like a good chance to make ICANN good enough to be regarded as legit
- Go Joop!
- What can you lose? We have no input now.
