Currently, I am interested in relating global advancements, particularly in the field of communications, to the specific characteristics of developing regions such as the Indian subcontinent.
I believe that the first and primary task of the panel must be the creation of trust and confidence in the representative process, whether through consultation or rule-making and impartial implementation of those rules. It is the manner in which things are done, rather than the outcome that really matters here; for people by nature have views on things, which many a time differ. Once we have procedural certainty, speedy decisions can be made on a variety of issues that have been pending for long.
Over the next few decades, the evolution of the Internet and related technologies depends on how we act now. This effort may be the last long shot of a chance that ordinary people have at exerting their stake in the governance of modern globalcommunications.
But, to survive, this organization desperately needs to be taken seriously. For that, it needs to distill the noise it has produced so far into a single voice, which governments, media and the public will listen to and respect. My hope is that this *may* be possible if individuals who believe in impartiality and principle occupy the seats on this steering group.
I wholeheartedly agree with Richard as regards his comments on the role of this initiative and support his candidature as also the candidature of Jamie, Joanna and Judith. I must limit the number of candidates I endorse, for I am familiar with and agree with the views of only these candidates:
Richard Henderson
Joanna Lane
Jamie Love
Judith Oppenheimer
